Your Surrogacy Journey, Mapped Out for You
Wondering what it actually takes to become a surrogate? Here is every step of the Hope Harbor process, from your first application to the day you place a newborn in the arms of parents who have waited for this moment, explained clearly so you always know what comes next.
A Process Built Around You
A Surrogacy Process That Feels Simple
Our co founder is a three time surrogate herself, and she helped shape this program around what actually makes the surrogacy process feel supported rather than overwhelming. Every Intended Parent who applies to work with Hope Harbor passes a background check, a credit check, a psychological evaluation, and a detailed interview before ever being introduced to a surrogate.
Surrogates always review Intended Parent profiles first, and we never use forced matching. Your comfort and your experience guide every decision along the way, and a dedicated coordinator is with you at each stage so you are never navigating a step alone.

From Application to Delivery Day
Every surrogacy journey is unique, but the path follows a clear, well supported sequence. Here is exactly what happens at each stage when you apply to become a Hope Harbor surrogate.
1
Getting Started
Submit Your Application
Fill out our online surrogate application, which takes about fifteen minutes. Once we receive it, an experienced coordinator reaches out to answer any questions you have about surrogacy and to request your medical records from previous pregnancies and deliveries.
About 15 Minutes
2
Medical and Background Clearance
Records Review and Eligibility
Our medical team reviews your obstetric records to determine your eligibility for the program. Once you pass this step, we schedule a meeting between you and our surrogate interviewer, who walks you through the surrogacy agreement and reviews your benefits in full detail.
1 to 2 Weeks
3
Confirming Readiness
Background Check and Psychological Evaluation
Once you affirm to our coordinators and staff that you understand the commitment and are ready to move forward, we run your background check and schedule your psychological interview with a licensed professional experienced in third party reproduction.
2 to 3 Weeks
4
Protecting Your Coverage
Insurance Review
Your insurance is reviewed carefully to confirm it is free of exclusions for surrogacy. If exclusions are found, our team assists you in obtaining additional coverage so your pregnancy is fully protected from day one.
1 to 2 Weeks

Finding Your Match
Choose Your Intended Parents
Once you are cleared, you begin reviewing profiles to select from. We take your preferences into account, including a couple or a single parent, domestic or international, gay or straight. Most surrogates match in less than a week, and you guide this process every step of the way.
Often Under 1 Week

Making Sure It Feels Right
Phone Call and In Person Meeting
After you choose Intended Parents on paper, we mediate a phone call to make sure this is a genuine match. If the call goes well, we arrange an in person meeting so both sides can connect before moving forward.
2 to 4 Weeks
8
Medical Clearance
Screening at the Clinic
If the in person meeting goes well, the next step is medical screening at the clinic chosen by your Intended Parents. We arrange your travel and make sure you and a companion have no out of pocket costs, and nothing is billed to your personal insurance.
4 to 6 Weeks
9
Legal Protection
Attorney and Contract
After screening, we help you select an attorney to represent you in your state and refer your Intended Parents to their own attorney. Every request you have for the contract is respected, and nothing is signed until you are fully comfortable.

A New Beginning
Compensation Begins and Delivery
Once your contract is completed and signed, monthly compensation begins and you receive a transfer calendar from your clinic. A personal escrow advocate oversees every payment, and you enjoy morning sickness packages and a personalized push present throughout a journey that carries you all the way to delivery day.
Through Delivery
I loved that I got to choose my Intended Parents first instead of being matched with whoever the agency picked. My coordinator had been a surrogate herself, so every time I had a question she actually understood what I was feeling, not just what I was asking.
